2 Randomized Controlled Studies on Prostate Cancer - and Now Three

Two randomized controlled studies have shown that undergoing radical surgery for prostate cancer doesn't make you live any longer!

1. Iversen P, Madsen PO, and Corle DK: Radical prostatectomy versus expectant treatment for early carcinoma of the prostate. Twenty-three year follow-up of a prospective randomized trial. Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology, supplement 1995, Jan 1;172:65-72.

2. Holmberg L, Bill-Axelson A, Helgesen F, Salo JO, Folmerz P, Haggman M, Andersson SO, Spangberg A, Busch C, Nordling S, Palmgren J, Adami HO, Johansson JE, Norlen BJ; Scandinavian Prostatic Cancer Group Study Number 4. A randomized trial comparing radical prostatectomy with watchful waiting in early prostate cancer. New England Journal of Medicine. 2002:Sep 12;347(11):781-789.

Randomized controlled trials are the most definitive studies that can be done. Randomized controlled trials separate modern medicine from quackery. Radical surgery for prostate cancer is a failure for men who have prostate cancer similar to the men in the above studies.

The third randomized controlled study on prostate cancer is actually the 2007 follow up of the Holberg study above. It's:

Radical prostatectomy versus watchful waiting in early prostate cancer. N Engl J Med. 2005 May 12;352(19):1977-84.Bill-Axelson A, Holmberg L, Ruutu M, Häggman M, Andersson SO, Bratell S, Spångberg A, Busch C, Nordling S, Garmo H, Palmgren J, Adami HO, Norlén BJ, Johansson JE; Scandinavian Prostate Cancer Group Study No. 4.

In this study, radical prostectomy failed to increase overall survival in 95% of men who suffered the side effects of surgery for 10 years. This is a very poor result. And, in fact, no man over the age of 65 benefitted from radical prostate cancer surgery for overall survival.

Dozens, even hundreds of studies show that undergoing surgery does great harm to your body. Therefore, this web site is dedicated to helping you avoid radical and harmful surgery when you treat your cancer.

Surgery should be done when it will truly help, not when it will only hurt.
